When:
October 10, 2020 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Hosted By:
Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal, Covington, Georgia and the Newton County, Georgia Sherriff's Office
Description:
Fr. Edwin Beckham, Rector (senior priest) of the Church of the Good Shepherd worked with Ms. Caitlin Jett (communications for Newton County Sheriff Ezell Brown) to set up a time when Fr. Beckham could meet up with the sheriff’s K-9 units, get to know them a little bit, give thanks for them and the officers involved, and offer a blessing for the dogs. The timing with Faith and Blue Weekend was good, as it was just one week after the feast day of St. Francis – the great Christian saint of the 13th century know for his love for all animals – when many churches offer a “Blessing of the Animals” for folks to bring their pets for a blessing by the clergy. This is a natural extension of that annual commemoration for Christians wanting to build bridges with law enforcement in their communities.
